The story

Where it comes from

Vietnamese Family Day (Ngày Gia đình Việt Nam) was created by Decision 72/2001/QĐ-TTg of the Prime Minister, signed on 4 May 2001, which names 28 June of every year as the day. It was proposed by Vietnam's Committee for the Protection and Care of Children. The decision describes the family as the cell of society, the cradle in which children are nurtured and their character is formed, and calls on everyone to help build happy, stable families.

How it's celebrated

Families mark the day by giving each other gifts, cooking a reunion meal together and exchanging heartfelt wishes, and parents use it to teach children what family means and what family members owe one another. Provinces, ministries and community organisations run activities and campaigns around it. It is a natural day to send a card to the people you call home.
