For the forests that make the rain.
Next: June 22, 2027
Where it comes from
World Rainforest Day was created by Rainforest Partnership, a non-profit in Austin, Texas, that Niyanta Spelman founded in 2007 to help rainforest communities protect the forests they live in. The first World Rainforest Day was held on 22 June 2017.
How it's celebrated
Rainforest Partnership convenes organisations, activists and ordinary people around the day, and in recent years has held an online summit that drew registrants from 77 countries in 2023. People share what they love about rainforests with #WorldRainforestDay.
