The story
Where it comes from
World Pasta Day goes back to the World Pasta Congress in Rome on 25 October 1995, where pasta makers from around the world agreed that pasta deserved its own yearly celebration. It has been held on 25 October every year since 1998. Today it is organised by the International Pasta Organisation, itself founded on 25 October 2005, and each recent edition has had a host city, from Milan and Moscow to Dubai, Philadelphia and Istanbul.
How it's celebrated
Pasta makers, chefs and restaurants mark the day around the world, and the year's host city holds the main gathering. At home it is the easiest day of the year to celebrate: cook a big pot of pasta, or noodles, for friends and family, try a new recipe, or bring back an old family favourite.
