World Pulses Day
Lentils, chickpeas and beans for all.
Next: February 10, 2027
Where it comes from
World Pulses Day celebrates the dry, edible seeds of leguminous plants: beans, chickpeas, peas, lentils and many more. After the success of the International Year of Pulses in 2016, led by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, the UN General Assembly designated 10 February as World Pulses Day in 2018.
How it's celebrated
Chefs, schools, farmers' groups and food lovers share recipes and cook together, and FAO publishes stories, fact sheets and infographics about pulses around the world. It is an easy day to join in: cook a pot of dal, hummus, bean soup or chilli, try a pulse you have never eaten, or buy from a local grower.
Did you know
Pulses take nitrogen from the air and fix it in the soil, making the land more fertile.
