World Food Safety Day

Good food is safe food.
The story
Where it comes from
The UN General Assembly proclaimed World Food Safety Day on 20 December 2018, in resolution 73/250, and it was first celebrated on 7 June 2019 under the slogan 'Food safety, everyone's business'. The World Health Organization and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN facilitate it together: FAO deals with safety along the food chain, from production to processing, while WHO works with the public health sector. In 2020 the World Health Assembly recognised the day as a platform for preventing foodborne disease at every level.
How it's celebrated
WHO and FAO invite everyone along the food chain to take part, whether they grow, process, transport, sell, cook or simply eat food. Governments, businesses and community groups hold awareness events, and WHO's Five Keys to Safer Food make an easy kitchen checklist: keep clean, separate raw and cooked, cook thoroughly, keep food at safe temperatures, and use safe water and raw materials.
